Meals Update

Dear Longhorn Families:

We have been pleased to be able to serve meals to many of our students during this time of struggle. COVID-19 has caught us all off guard and I know many of you may have stumbled upon difficult times. Many of you have opted out of the meals because of the risk of exposure. If we have served you a meal, I assure you we have taken many precautions. We also do not have knowledge of any of our folks having direct exposure to the virus. However, there is no way to secure everyone, because we run a risk of exposure everytime we simply put fuel in a vehicle or go grocery shopping.

It hurts my heart to announce the end of our meal service, but we will serve our last meals on Wednesday, April 8th. Again, we DO NOT know of any direct exposure. But we do not want to risk the health of our students and everyone in their homes. The decision to stop has been a difficult one, but I know we are not running the risk of spreading COVID-19 if we are not delivering your meals and coming in to close proximity with you or your students.

We will have a packet pick up and drop off Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. There will only be a few of us and we will have protection to ensure we do not spread anything. We will change gloves and sanitize constantly. Please be patient with us during this drop off and pick up. Those packets are already prepared and are sitting with no one to touch them until the pick up on Saturday, so they will be germ free!

The safety of our students and our community weighs heavily on my heart. I do worry about some of our students and I was very happy to see them on our routes each day. If you have concerns about having enough food for your family, we will try to connect you with a food pantry or church that might help. We are working on some possibilities at the school too. Please email me at meals@mcleodisd.net. I am the only one checking those emails. Please stay home and stay safe. I will continue to pray for all of you who are at home, those who are essential employees, and those on the front lines of this battle. I am anxiously awaiting the time when we can all be together again!

Much Love,
Cathy May
